The GAP: where dreams die or come alive (part 2)

The GAP: where dreams die or come alive (part 2)

There is a theme happening right now… it’s kinda like when you want to buy a red car and then you notice that EVERYONE has a red car… The theme is people are stepping into the GAP. (Not the clothing store as my funny and smart @$$ friend Heidi says.) The GAP is the place between letting go of what no longer works and stepping into what is coming – BUT what’s coming hasn’t shown up quite yet. I talk about the gap in part 1 of this article series here because the first step is to get clear on what you desire. “The GAP (can be) the place where possibilities go to die from causes like, ‘being responsible,’ ‘being realistic,’ and ‘being practical.’” The Gap is also the place where infinite possibilities come alive. My friend Lori reminded me of this recently. If you truly desire change, there is no going back to the old life. You can SORT OF go back to the old life but it will likely be more painful. Why? Because you know what you desire and you consciously told yourself you couldn’t have it. I’m seeing more and more people consciously enter into the GAP without having the universe smack them around before they’ll finally listen to their deepest desires. (We don’t need to hit rock bottom or have a total breakdown to wake up to a new possibility.) How we go into the GAP doesn’t necessarily matter (in my opinion). It’s what we do after we enter that matters. The old me: I would desire something to be different. I would let...

Six Coaching Myths + 15 things I Know for Sure

(You can listen to this below too) I’ve been in business for almost ten years and I’ve seen a lot and learned a lot in this industry. The first time I seriously considered getting out of the coaching biz was in 2012 when I burned my business down. (That’s another story for another day.) I was disheartened by what I was seeing as the “norm,” particularly in the live event space. It was a wake-up call for me to assess what I wanted to create in my business, with my clients, and in the world. These were just some of the questions I had from the models I saw: Was there another way to make money that wasn’t based on ‘overcoming objections’ and convincing people to buy stuff? Could people make 5- and 6-figure paydays from their live events without the fear-based selling? Could I create a leveraged business model that still had a high-touch component with my clients? Was the only way to grow my business to get a fancy brick and mortar office and hire full-time staff? Did I have to post the lifestyle shots on social media that showed everyone how great my life was? After considering these questions and finding a path that resonated much better with me, I’ve come a long way and I’ve seen a lot in this industry. There are a few coaching myths that I just don’t buy into. I’d love to hear your thoughts below on this post or in my Facebook group. Myth #1: Charge what you’re worth. You are an infinite being, how can you possibly charge what...
Is Plan B Really So Bad? A Soulful Guide to Choosing YOU.

Is Plan B Really So Bad? A Soulful Guide to Choosing YOU.

Someone recently asked me if I work with “newbies.” She assumed that I didn’t. I work with some newbies, but it’s deeper than that. I’m not the person who works with people with a Plan B. I’m the person who works with people who are dedicated to building a business. Plan B isn’t so bad. It’s usually the responsible path. The path of least resistance (at first glance anyway.) It’s usually the path that we hope will make everyone happy, including ourselves. How do you choose your Soul Vision aka Plan A, instead of Plan B? What would happen if you chose YOU? You chose what made YOU happy? What could happen if you allowed yourself to be SELFISH? Gasp, can I even say that to a community of women who have been the nurturers, and caregivers, and fixers for decades? And guys, don’t worry, you’re not out of this either. We all do this to some level – until we don’t. Here’s the thing, if you judge Plan B, you can’t see your way out of it. What you judge, you cannot change. The solution is to be aware of what you are choosing and be open to choosing something else. Really, it’s that simple. We don’t need to go into the drama of it all that is based on judging ourselves or trying to people-please. Being brave and choosing to be courageous is just that: a choice.  And you will NEVER feel “ready.” At least in the hundreds of conversations I’ve had to on the topic, no one ever feels “ready.” I didn’t FEEL ready to leave...
Big Magic: How to Create From Your Dream List

Big Magic: How to Create From Your Dream List

I will be sharing the stage with Elizabeth Gilbert next month in Seattle at an event called Connect: Transform What Really Matters hosted by Darla LeDoux. My eyes leak a little when I really think about this. I’m delighted, honored, and so excited to share my message about Courage. This book has changed my life. I’ve recommended it to hundreds of people and bought for close to a dozen people. Listening to it is my favorite – it’s just Liz and I doing the dishes or running errands. One of my favorite parts of the book is when she says if you aren’t creating something, you are destroying something. Our creative energy has to go somewhere and what I know is that when I’m not using that energy to create what I desire, I create a whole lotta drama and struggle in my life. When I’m not in the flow of my own life, then I am destroying part of my truth in order to live the lie that I can’t have what I really desire. When I don’t create, I justify my limitations. I have to “think” about things instead of choose IN and move. I stall out. I delay my dreams. And then I judge the hell out of myself for falling into that trap again.  Damn am I grateful I do this far less often as I used to! When I’m not in the flow of my own life, I am destroying part of my truth in order to live the lie that I can’t have what I really desire. I’ve been a little obsessed with...
Unity. Kindness. THIS is who we are.

Unity. Kindness. THIS is who we are.

(Scroll to the bottom to listen to this episode.) Unity. Kindness. THIS is who we are. Today marked the inauguration of the new US President. Exhale fear. Return it to sender with consciousness attached. Expand your energy…bigger. bigger. Expand. Remember that fear (and narcissists) will do everything possible to convince you that you are helpless and broken. Here’s the truth: you have the ability and power to create. WE the people create change. We stand for unity. We stand for kindness. We stand for equality. THIS is who we are. What else is possible? The country and the world have entered into a chapter of doing shadow work. If you’ve done shadow work before, you know that this sh*t is not for the faint of heart. As a nation and a world, we are being called to look deeply within. We are now looking at the things we have pretended are not there. We are feeling the effects of the undone healing. We are being forced to look at what tolerating things for decades does to our hearts and the world. While we know that structures that are in the way of creating a greater future will be stripped away and torn down to build something even better – this is how life works. Breaking down the old paradigms is f*cking uncomfortable. It can be hard. Perhaps this is what’s happening now and it’s in the package that we want to refuse, avoid, and blame. But we do it anyway. We stand back up. We embrace one another. We love the parts of ourselves and our communities that feel scared and...
The Awakening: can shadow work liberate the world after the election?

The Awakening: can shadow work liberate the world after the election?

We’ve felt it haven’t we? The shifts. The shadow. The discomfort. The awakening. I haven’t known quite what to say yet regarding recent world events – the elections, Standing Rock, shootings, the division, and that’s just in the US. A few days after the election results came in, I was relieved to travel to Australia to speak at an event of over 150 SOULpreneurs. My heart was able to heal a little so I could get grounded before I spoke out of pure fear, anger, or sadness. I was embraced by the most nurturing and kind people in Melbourne – thank you to Rachael Jayne Groover for the opportunity. I wish I could say that I was surprised when the election results came in, but I wasn’t. Heartbroken at first? Yes. Surprised? Unfortunately, no. There is a dichotomy at play here that will either push us to the edge so we leap, or push us to the edge and we fold. What will we choose as a collective whole? As individuals? What will create the change in the world that we all want to see, regardless of who you voted for or if you are in the US? I believe it starts with shadow work and clearing work. For those of you who know Access Consciousness® work that I use, these tools are especially handy.  First, let’s look at shadow work, which is a concept developed by Carl Jung and I especially like Debbie Ford’s exploration of this work. The shadow forms a part of your unconscious mind and is built up of everything you feel ashamed of thinking...
