When I was in Kenya in March, it was during the tail end of their drought season.
Going to the Masai Mara on safari was awesome and alarming at the same time. It was clear there was not a lot of water. The rivers were mostly dry. And our Kenyan brothers who were our guides asked us to join them to pray for rain.
So I prayed in Africa…for rain. And for many other things.
At one of the churches we attended, the pastor apologized that the congregation was late in arriving. We thought it was just Africa standard time – the joke is everything starts at least 30 minutes late.
But I stopped laughing when the pastor told us that because of the lack of rain, people in the village had to travel farther for water and they will be with us when they can. He said it was all okay in God’s timing.
The pastor wasn’t worried. The people would come. We would sing and celebrate. And it would all be in divine timing. Pentacostal churches in Kenya are a lot of fun – full self experession to celebrate. I could use more of that for sure!
This was another moment of true Hakuna matata. (Swahili phrase that means there isn’t a problem or trouble so just relax man.)
One of the meditations I did in Africa was around having a conversation with money.
Money, what do you need to feel safe in my life?
Money, how would oyou like to come into my life right now.
So when I heard the answer “Plant a garden,” I thought I had lost my damn mind.
I kill plants (proof here) – I’m trying to get this lil’ guy back but I think it’s time for him to be buried with my other plants I’ve killed. #truestory
Plant a garden. Yeah right. But then as we were teaching families some farming tips and giving them seeds for their crops, I could feel my soul calling me to get my hands in the earth and get connected to nature.
I told my friend Heidi (who is a rock star at business and home schooling and speaking and technology and lots of other stuff too) about the garden idea.
So I came home and planted a garden. My sister who was visiting from back east was staying at my house and I enrolled her in the vision. When my sis and I get together and there are power tools within reach, we make stuff – cool stuff.
Before and After. Pretty cool right? And these little guys (my plants are now things I talk to daily) even survived six inches of snow last week. I’m so proud of them.
Now why in the world did my money want me to plant a garden?
To trust. To get connected and trust.
Before we filled the garden beds with soil, we wrote affirmations on the inside of the wood.
With every plant that grows, our intentions grow with it.
Something happens in my BEing when I’m watering my new plant friends and telling them I love them. (Instead of the crazy cat lady, I’m becoming the crazy plant lady).
What happens is I REMEMBER. I remember that I’m connected to divine wisdom. I remember that connection to nature that nurtures me. I am in awe of nature as she grows and shifts and survives in crazy conditions (like 6 inches of snow in April). And nature shows me how to trust.
What if that kind of flow was constant in my business? In your business?
Ah yes grasshopper, I am learning.
The kick-ass kale that is growing just trusts that it’s kale, it doesn’t have to be anything else. It gladly receives nutrients and water and sunshine. It doesn’t repel it away because it doesn’t think it’s worthy or it didn’t work hard enough to deserve what it needs to grow. It works in partnership with it’s environment to get what it needs to grow, to eventually become kale chips for my yummy tummy.
What could happen if we worked in partnership with the energy around us instead of attempting to do it on our own to prove how strong we are?
And all of this begs questions like:
“Do I trust the process? Do I receive the nutrients around me or do I push it away because I SHOULD have worked harder and somehow made my own sunshine instead of just let it shine upon me as if I’m the only one the sun was made for?”
Africa. A garden. Dancing with Baby A. Watching Nashville and Gray’s Anatomy with my sister. TRUSTING that all is wll and the universe has my back.
Ah, yes – THIS is what I was designed for. THIS kind of ease and peace. THIS kind of abundance. Isn’t this truly “having it all?”
What could YOU BE to trust more today? Would you be willing to receive more from your surroundings and TRUST that what you need will show up.
Funny how trust and receiving go hand in hand.
Yeah, I think I like this way of being. A lot. My business likes it too. And so does money – yep money likes it a LOT. #scrumptious
